It is today well assumed that the current town hall of Hamburg is the sixth in the history of the city. The last one was completly destroyed by a fire in year 1842. Consequently took place the building of the present town hall in year 1897. Its 4000 pillars are deep anchored in the marshy earth. It is one of the few perfectly preserve german buildings belonging to Historicism. The courtyard of the city hall is recognized as one of the most beautiful places of the city, with renaissance-style façades and in the middle the fountain Hygieia: it shows a female figure in bronze, which represents health Pisa to a dragon who symbolizes the cholera (epidemic of cholera in 1892).
The town hall of Hamburg is located at Rathausmarkt and it is from monday to friday from 7-19 hours. Saturday from 10-18 hours and sundays from 10-17 hours
